Your correspondent has just returned from balmy, bibulous Key West, Florida, where The Coates Brass Band performed the music of their namesake, Civil War-era composer and bandmaster Thomas Coates, along with other favorites of that period. The occasion coincided with the 150^th anniversary of the date, February 4, 1862, when Thomas Coates led his 47^th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Band to take up residence in Key West’s Fort Zachary Taylor.
