Being an authentic cavalry reenactor really begins with a fundamental question you must ask yourself. "Why do I reenact?" Americans reenact for different reasons. Some more self-indulgent than historical. But, if your reason is to commemorate our heritage and attempt to understand and live the war time experience you must naturally then ask yourself, "Really, how serious am I about doing it right?"
So, how authentic do you want to be? After considering the questions above the following are a few easy and enjoyable ways to make "authenticity" a growing part of your cavalry experience:
